From a photographic standpoint, I like to think of myself as a landscape photographer more than anything else, but it seems like a lot of wildlife has wandered in front of my lens lately. What I search for most is unusual light to combine with the nice locations I find myself in--so sometimes I think maybe I'm getting halfway decent at being a "light" photographer. ;-P Thanks very much for coming around and browsing through some of my photos, and I hope you enjoyed seeing a little glimpse of my life.

My gear includes Olympus E500 and E520, 11-22, 50-200, 14-54, 35 macro, and a variety of legacy lenses (the one most frequently used is the OM 300 4.5). I may occasionally post film scans from OM1 and/or Mamiya 7.

In my "other" life I am a biologist who spent some years working in the forest, in the parks, and as a wildland firefighter.

Thanks for visiting....

    Tootsiekat / kathy says:

"I’ve known Charlene all most life; she’s my niece. I’ve seen her grow in her photography and was proud to see her photo in Outdoor Photographer in March ’10. I look daily for her latest post and can get a little pushy (everyone needs a nudge right? ) if I don’t see her latest shot. I’ve learned a lot from her and she has helped fuel my passion to grow with my photography. I concur: Charlene is the queen of backlighting. Aunt Kathy"

    Further to Fly says:

"CB is not only a master of light, but a master of love for nature. There's a tangible communal thing going on in her beautiful photography -- not only do you see her affection for the outdoors, you see the outdoors loving her back. It dresses up and puts on its best colors, and pauses for a moment while she clicks the shutter. It's mystical. I love it."

"I have no idea who Charlene is or where she came from, but man oh man, she makes some awesome pictures. It's always a treat to look at and learn from them. Actually, I do know where she came from: the Sarcastic People Factory. But who cares? She's a shooter's shooter... just look at this stuff she's making! Makes a person a little green with envy sometimes. Kudos to you, Stormygirl. You have oodles of talent."

    Hoot1 says:

"Charlene has some great images in her portfolio. She seems to have a knack for capturing the sweet light no matter the setting. Forest scenes, coastal scenes, deserts, wildlife; she nails them all equally good. Take a stroll through her photostream. There's a great deal of variety and some outstanding photography."

    All Iris says:

"I continue to be amazed at SG's gift at capturing images with serene or surreal lighting, and GREAT compositions. What I THOUGHT were mere WEEDS can become silky and seductive art pieces, and tends to make me throw any camera I have to the wind; content to pick up my paint brush-perhaps that is my only tool, (and that is OK). I am grateful to call her a personal friend, and doubly blessed to watch her occasionally in process, and see results of her other travels., etc. etc. YAY-life IS good!"

    Geyser Gary says:

"I LOVE Stormygirl's photos! She captures awesome light and deep, rich colors. She is Queen of the back lit photo. I think one of the first comments I made about any photo of her's concerned her eye for composition. She just "sees" photographically. She knows what composition is going to make a great photo. Whether the photo comes off her point and shoot or from her medium format camera, you can count on Stormygirl to make a great image."
