Hello. I'm Stewart Ayrey. I like to think of myself as a photographer, but then I have grand ideas sometimes. I have Canon 40D (after I dropped my 20D in a lake in Canada) but I really would love a full-frame DSLR. I also own a Fender Strat, a mountain bike and a lovely wife and son.

I am moving completely away from taking colour images. I don't know why, I just seem to prefer the starkness of a black and white image. I think I like dramatic images, or images with texture and pattern which naturally lend themselves to monochrome. Or may be its just that I never seem to be able to good colour image.....

I have taken photos at weddings - a real buzz, but too stressful for me to a make a career of it.

I adore the landscapes of North America and especially Iceland. There is just something about these places which inspires and in some cases intimidates. Equally I love stark urban landscapes - something with grit and harshness.

If have played around with Holgas (I love them) but didn't have the patience to process and then scan the films. I been experimenting with a Lens Baby to get the same effect, but its not quite the same.

A new thing for me is a 10x stop ND filter.- perfect for dreamy long exposures (black and white of course!) I have a lot more to learn - there are some great photographers of this style on Flickr.

I really appreciate your comments and suggestions to improve my images. Thanks to everybody for making my images their faves, also thanks to those who want to make me a contact. There are some great photographers out there, who are a source of inspiration and envy to me.

One thing I really dislike about Flickr is the excessive graphic comments, nice but still little better than spam. Please don't give my images naff awards!

I have a lot of Flickr contacts. Recently I have started to classify some really great Long Exposure / Minimalist photographers as Friends. Not necessarily because they are my actual personal friends, but just to make it easier to find their images - which I am increasingly obsessed with. If only Flickr would have some way of sorting contacts, like Google+ circles, into different groups and/or genres.
