Steve Scroggins is an award winning, internationally collected Artist working in a wide variety of materials including Oil, Acrylics, Watercolor, Mixed Media, Collage/Assemblage, Photography and Ceramics. His experience includes: Art Instructor, Television Producer, Radio Commentator, Pastor, Poet, Landscape Designer, Lyricist and Musician. He is a past member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and a member of the Clay Arts Guild of North Idaho (CAGNI) and the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Coeur d’Alene.

Steve was born 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised his early years by maternal grandparents. His Grandfather was a hillbilly from Kentucky who could not read or write yet has proven to be the wisest man Steve has ever known. His Grandmother was a vibrant and kind Cherokee Indian.

With great pride his Grandfather taught Steve the difference between tools and toys. They spent many precious hours together on the back porch “whittling” and practicing the basic skills of sculpture. His Grandfather worked as a Machinist but for extra money installed Wall Paper. As a young boy Steve would accompany his Grandfather on weekends and helped paste and hang these Walls of Paper. This experience instilled in the Artist an instinctive ability to work with Collage and Assemblage and a natural inclination to create art on a monumental scale.

His Grandmother instilled a love of flora in the young boy as they worked together tending the array of beautiful flowers that encircled their small rural backyard. The bright colors and tempting textures are still emblazoned on his heart and mind and often become integral parts of his paintings. Grandmother also taught him to cook, she would say, “Stevie, if it looks good, it tastes better!” The artist has enjoyed applying that concept to many aspects of life.

At the age of nine Steve received his first camera, a Kodak Brownie, and continues to this day as an avid photographer. By his teens he began working in collage, writing poetry, painting with watercolors and working in clay creating hand built objects. In his early twenties, after returning state side from a tour of duty in the Orient with the USAF, the artist began to explore kinetic sculpture in the Calder Style. He went on to study Fine Art, Music, Ornamental Horticulture, Theology and Graphic Design yet believes Life continues to be his best and most reliable Teacher!

    Cabriat says:

"Steve tiene un manejo del color y de las formas muy estilizado, percibe la complejidad de una simple linea y la plasma en un sin fin de gritos de variantes de color. También es un rebelde en lo que a diseño se refiere y transgrede todo lo que puede ser limitante al arte y bien sabemos que el arte solo se abre camino, no sabe de leyes ni de conceptos. Steve, espero sigas dandonos pasos a seguir en este arduo camino del placer visual."

"Steven's critical work puts the finger right into the purulent
wounds of hypocrisy and lies . His pictures
are direct and without any frills, intellectual, deep and with
a wonderful sense of humor. Steven is one of the truly great artists
    of this time."

"Steven Scroggins work is alive, passionate and bold. I was at first attracted to the delicious shock of colour, particularly in his earlier pieces but having seen more of his art I think it's more about the creative energy that appeals to me. His work seems to buzz with energy. Besides the great artwork, Steve is such a nice guy, always ready to encourage other artists. I appreciate his input."

"Steve is a double artist, as he is an artist in his own true sense. His art is exciting, original, thought and emotion provoking (in all senses). Hi works is also true to his inspiration as an artist, and he definitely carries his own style. I often see a photo of him in front of his work, tired as heck but very satisfied of a day's hard work.

His second art would be his photographic skills as an artist...he takes photographs of his own art work therefore producing two visual images that are unforgettable.

Don't stop, Steve, keep giving us inspiration on a daily basis!"

Steve is an extraordinarily talented artist, and without exception the friendliest person on Flickr, providing comments and thoughts on other's work.. I love having him comment and view my pictures!

To be so giving in terms of sharing his art, and his time, thoughts and judgement on other's work too is a rare combination. I feel priviledged to have Steve as a contact on Flickr."
