Snow Over Port Townsend Pier by Steve Deligan

Landscapes, long exposures, and some macro. Currently long exposure has me captivated.

Started in 35mm SLR photography over 20 years ago and today absolutely love the digital revolution. Photography is how I keep my sanity and creativity!

Images do not simply come "straight out of the camera" (SOOC). They need additional input and direction from the photographer/artist. The physical taking of the photograph is only the first step in the artistic process. None of the great photographers, whether using film or digital, simply snapped an image and left it there. Ansel Adams spent hours in the darkroom laboring over his prints, dodging and burning and exposing and on and on. All other artistic photographers did and still do the same. Adams even imagined the rise of "electronic" pictures and thought that that would eventually only help the artist. He was not as hung up on the media as much as realizing the ideas in the artists head. Today we may work on computers instead of the chemical darkroom, but the artistry still comes from the photographer using a modern set of tools.

Nikon shooter: D700, 24-70 f/2.8, etc...

I'm really trying to better my images through improving my skills, because I can no longer blame the equipment or software! Any advice or gentle criticism is welcome as are any comments on my images. Hope to hear from you!

Please do not be offended if I do not accept some group invitations. I really prefer groups with no rules and that do not require posting/commenting/faving. I comment as often as I can, when I think it’s appropriate, but I just don't have the patience to play the games. I also think that many of the large, blinking "awards" look a bit tacky, so I don't ever post them and would appreciate them being limited. I apologize if that sounds ungrateful! Thank you!
