I've taken photos as far back as I can remember - starting as a kid with a 110 camera and nicking my father's Kodak 35mm when I could get away with it. Mostly it was the ubiquitous snapshot, occasionally something slightly (very slightly) better. Over the years I had borrowed or purchased a number of cameras ranging from the semi-professional (Canon and Minolta SLRs) to the niche (Yashica Samurai Z) but eventually, "life" happened and photography took a back-seat to other things.

In 2002 met my spouse, Virgina - and as I started spending time around her horses, I found a passion for my photography again. I've been shooting semi-professionally, specializing in equestrian photography (show/event, farm, and sale photos), in the Mid-Eastern United States since the Spring of 2008.
I don't expect that this will ever be my primary career, since my day-job is more lucrative than the median Photog's salary of $27,720 (per US employment data), but I believe it's a great side-line to express and extend my creative side while providing quality, reasonably priced images to equestrians and other horse-lovers.

Waxing philosophic - I believe that creative professionals seem to get the short end in our modern society. We tend to judge value based on a a narrow view of technical expertise ("I can point a camera and take a photo as well as you, so what you do has little value.") This view disregards vision, creativity and other intangibles involved with creating a photograph. I wonder if this is evolutionary or cyclic, and if, as a society, we'll return to a period where art and music are considered a necessity in our daily lives. I hope so.

For now, I'm always working to improve both the finer technical points and the creative aspects, as I feel these are both life-long endeavors.
