I run with scissors...
I welcome you to my world with these words I have stolen from Leonard Cohen,
I was lost/ when I met you on the road/ to Larissa/ the straight road between the cedars
You thought/ I was a man of roads/ and you loved me for being such a man/ I was not such a man
I was lost when/ I met you on the road/ to Larissa
Think about these words as they will help you to understand both my sight and my failings.
Peace
For all of you I wish you health and laughter, safe travels and mad love.
Photographs
Pictures of Portugal and soft Key West nights,
the blue of the water that just matched your eyes.
The house by the bay where we lived those three years
and that cat that we had, there was a picture of him,
sitting out on the seawall with the tide fully in.
Looking out at the water as if wishing to swim.
I remember the longing that he and I had,
him just to wander and me to hold tight.
I lost him that day when the tide was far out
he was hunting for crabs where the water just touched
but the storm came too quick and he couldn't get away.
I found his wet body the very next day.
With you it was different, a gradual thing,
one day I looked up and nothing was there.
As I look at these pictures I find nothing of you,
not even a body washed up on the shore,
Just me and the cat and the house by the bay.

On Seeing Martha Naked for the First Time
I remembered to call
but you forgot to answer
so I took the dress you left
hanging in my closet
and beat the shit out of it
and than set it on fire
and watched the sparks
dance upon the night.

Conversations with Heather in August after sundown
You talked about god
while the fireflies
wrote dirty words
in the honeysuckle.
You said he would provide
and I wondered why he was a he?
I see god as a
trans-gendered drag queen
who wears fruit for hats.
~a lot of apples and some pears~
But that might explain my current
inability to pick any
winning lotto numbers.
Maybe I will go to church
this Sunday and
drop a few bucks in the plate.
Maybe she will throw me a bone.

jesus lied to me
mom and jesus
didn't say that
love would hurt me
quite this way
when you got up
and went away

To kim from PA. on the anniversary of mother’s day
you left me in a swarm of confusion
on mother’s day
right before the cherry blossoms
were to bloom
Saying that he needed his wife
pregnant somebody said
a couple of years later
In passing
eight years and that hadn't happened
but mine swam well
better than most I think
find me
for I don't want my sons to ever
fuck their half sister
even by mistake

To Sara in Vermont in the Winter
I have known too many pretty women
to be dazzled by you
the shine of your hair and the
color of your eyes
lips that linger in my memory
long after the substance
has gone
I remember others who
escaped after resting
awhile and drinking
from the clay cup
that once was the holy grail.
healed and no longer
in need
at least I still have the
scars from your nails
down my back
that still seep each Tuesday

I want one more climb... one more race before the wind...one more trip around the world and one more leap into the void mindless of the risk or the potential.
I require one more journey down the glory road and one dragon to slay and one more damsel to save.
I have celebtated the 42th anniversity of my 18th birthday for those who might wonder.

"Just look at Steve`s photo`s and you will know that he is passionate...an artist and I think deep inside he has a heart of gold ...you can not be this good and not have a heart ,but I hope he sees this the way I mean it ...and know I mean what I say !!!"

where's charlie? says:
"Steve is a nasty piece of work; vengeful, disturbing and nasty.. did I say nasty cos he's really nasty. He can bang on about how he has lots of young girlfriends and that his "art" is gaining acceptance across the east cost or wherever he is from; but it doesn't take anything away from that fact that he's always only ever been nasty to me. Sometimes I try to prod him to get a reaction, but that's not working anymore.
oh yeah, he takes nice photo's and paints cool pictures. Just don't tell him I said so."7th May, 2008

"This man has been a mean piece of work since i first met him on Flickr and got to enjoy his fun banter in DMU, the group for the les miserables of Flickr. He is nasty and paranoid and repelling to others when his mood permits and he's always looking for a fight - it doesn't matter what as long as he can rant and rave and scream.
He also takes some amazing pictures and I believe his presence makes Flickr a better place. I'm proud to have him as a contact."7th August, 2007

"I love Steve. His dead honesty is something not only refreshing, but something you can depend on. It's awesome to see his photostream grow and see what new things he adds to it. I also love the fact that he stands not only by his convictions, but this is a man that fights for what he believes in.
Damn I wish he didn't have a girlfriend. The lucky bitch. :("21st July, 2007

CameraOne says:
"The theory goes, and I believe it, that the crazier a person is the more talent he/she is capable of. That being said, Steve Gobeil is fucking insane! I have been in complete awe of his work after discovering it only a week ago, especially his mastery of black and white photography. I have worked with black and white film all my life until my recent change to digital so I know what I am talking about when I say that his work is exhibition quality. His work inspires me to go out and be as big of a nutcase as I can with my camera. Steve, thank you so much for sharing your insanity with the rest of us!"

Steve Gobeil is one of the few people on flickr who truly deserves the label "artist".
HIs work is beautiful and thought-provoking. He creates things that cause you to linger -- his work is sublime and one must study it to appreciate its depth.

"I met Steve a couple months ago when I first started on Flickr (under another screen name which got terminated by Flickr for a stupid reason - but thats besides the point). I'm not sure how he found me or how I found him but our online friendship was great. We even exchanged a few emails off of Flickr. When I signed up again under this new screen name I was very upset because it was not a pro account and for this reason i could not post as many photo's as I had goten used to posting. In less than 60 photos I had used up my free account alloted space! In the meantime Steve emailed me saying welcome back and I had been missed. Out of the blue he purchased me a pro account today!!! I guess I've learned from this experience that Flickr is not only a place for posting your photo's but its also a place to meet great friends. Even if I never make another friend on here, I have Steve and he is truly a friend and a blessing in my life. Thank you Steve from the bottom of my heart. What you didnt know id that my grandfather passed away in January 2005. He was a professional photographer and tried for years to get me interested - I wasn't until just before his death. The photos I took, although different from his style, he thought were great. Photography has now become a way of life for me and I love being able to post them for others to see. Now if only I could get anew camera, mine broke and I am borrowing a friends right now, lol :-) Thanks for helping me and being a wonderful caring and compassionate friend!!"
