I'd say that I'm fairly new to "photography" though I've been taking photos for years. One of my main interests or hobbies is music and I started taking photos of concerts and musicians about 10 years ago when I started a non-profit music venue in Kennebunk Maine called the Kennebunk Coffeehouse
kennebunkcoffeehouse.com

At that time I bought a Sony Mavica 95. It was a 2.1 meg with a 20x zoom built into. The zoom was phenomenal and the camera itself was so user friendly that I could get phenomenal shots (at least in my opinion at that time) almost immediately.

The camera had it's drawbacks too but I worked with them. It stored photos on floppy discs and I could only get 4 photos per disc. Timing was essential and I probably missed more photos than I actually took.

Last year I decided to upgrade. I bought a Canon 40d and knew that as soon as I started, I would be taking award winning photos. To my shock and surprise, that didn't happen. I realized quickly that I didn't really know what the hell I was doing. I became depressed that I had invested so much money in a product that I didn't know how to use.

On Jan 1st - I made a resolution to get out of my funk and learn more about photography. I found the 365 day project podcast online the365daysproject.podbean.com/
and was intrigued.

Steven Poff and Chris Mav started this project and a flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/365days/ and I was amazed at what I saw. I figured that if I was going to make a resolution to take better photos it wouldn't be a bad idea to commit to taking at least one photo a day. Of course, a photo of myself may not be so exciting but I thought I'd give it a try. I took my first photo on January 1, 2008 and was on my way.

So far I feel like I've learned a bit but still have a long way to go. At times I am inspired and at others I feel like it's only a task and I have no motivation at all. My photos are getting better and I'm excited to see what will happen at the end of the year.

In addition to running the Kennebunk Coffeehouse I also have a weekly radio show on WSCA 106.1 FM, Portsmouth Community Radio in Portsmouth, NH. I've been doing this for a little over 3 years and really enjoy it. The show can be streamed live every Friday from 2-5pm EST on wscafm.org
myspace.com/staytunedmusic

Each week I play the music I like and also try to have live in-studio guests most weeks. I love being able to introduce musicians to my listeners and learning more about them myself.

I got into musician interviews about 8 years ago when I started a cable television show where I interviewed musicians. The show ran for about 5 years and then was dropped when our cable company was bought out by another larger cable corporation.
