How to become a Christian:
First, you've got to realize that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." [NIV]. It says that, "all have sinned", not just some people. Little boys and girls, your mom and dad, theives, the old man down your street, politicians, and even people in the ministry. We're all guilty of sin against God. It says that we "fall short of the glory of God." There is nothing we can do, by our own power, to overcome this sin. We can't pay our way out of it, talk our way out, or anything else. We may try each with all our might, but we will still fall short.
In Romans 6:23, the Apostle Paul tells us the penalty of our sins. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." [NIV]. We are deserving of of death.
But don't worry. God had something great in mind. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to give us a life everlasting. In Romans 5:8, Paul says, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." [NIV]. Christ paid the ultimate price, sacrificing his life for ours. He took all our sin upon himself and bore that burden.
In Romans 10:9-10, Paul tells us how we can come into a relationship with Jesus Christ. He says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." [NIV]. You've got to do more than think it in your head. You've got to say it with your mouth. Say it with your heart, 'Jesus is Lord.' Finally, in Romans 10:13, "...for 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" [NIV]
Did you hear that? Not some, but everyone who calls on the name of Lord will be saved. Amen!
Make this commitment today. Don't waste another moment. Bring Jesus into your heart. Begin a new life now. If you'd like to do this, pray this short prayer:
Lord, Jesus, I ask that you would come into my heart right now. I believe that you died for my sins and can make my heart new again, even with the things I've done wrong. Help me in the days ahead as I begin my new life as a believer. Thank you for loving me so much. In Jesus' name, Amen.
If you just prayed this prayer, and meant it with all your heart, let me be the first to congratulate you! You're now a Christian!
So, what now? Let someone know about the decision you have made. You're going to need the support of your fellow Christian brothers and sisters. You can send me an e-mail right now and I will pray for you. Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ is the best decision I've ever made.
