About señorita leona / Mariana Fossatti

My name is Mariana Fossatti and I am 28 years old. I am a visual artist from Montevideo, Uruguay, a little country of South America. I will show you some things I produce in my workshop: a lot of collages, photos and some drawings.

I’ve been working in collage as a way of artistic expression for some years. I use paper, cardboard, magazine clippings, vintage ephemera and all kind of things. Some of my works are figurative and some others abstract. You will see that many times my style is close to pop art.

"Señorita Leona"(Miss Lioness), the name of my workshop, is inspired in a short story by Horacio Quiroga. It is about a little lioness that grows in the city. She is educated by humans and she becomes a refined singer. One day, in the middle of a concert, without knowing why, she starts roaring like a beast. All the people who up to that day loved her begin to be afraid of her, and then she must return to the jungle to live like a wild animal.
