The vivid face of the flower... the peaceful moods of the forest... the hypnotic dance of the waterfall... the innocence of childhood... these are some of my favorite things -- to experience and to photograph. I've been taking pictures for most of my 40-odd years, but really only began taking it seriously when I got my first digital camera about 6 years ago. There will always be the argument of digital v.s. film -- there are pros and cons to each. For me digital is freedom -- freedom to experiment and explore, to catch the light 100 different ways to see which one captures the moment best... I am not so much concerned with the technical as I am with the feeling, the mood, the story each picture tells.
I am an outdoorsy kind of girl at heart, preferring mountains, forests and hiking trails to sun-soaked beaches, resorts and touristy towns. I love old things -- people, places and objects that hold stories and secrets. I guess it only follows that my favorite subjects are flowers, waterfalls and landscapes, lighthouses, antiques and old buildings, and of course, children... the innocence of life.
A couple of years ago I made a serious career change and life slowed down -- it was the best thing I've ever done for myself and for my family. Age has taught me to make the most of every day, to focus on the important things and to accept that the rest will take care of itself. A few of the goals I have are: 1) Hike every mile of every mapped trail in the Porcupine Mountains, 2) Take a photographic odyssey to Europe, particularly Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein and the Bavarian regions of Germany, 3) Visit, hike and photograph in as many U.S. National Parks as possible in my lifetime.
Besides taking pictures, I enjoy being outside, hiking, camping, letterboxing (what the heck is letterboxing?), music, altered art, journaling, bookbinding, reading and writing poetry, and good conversation over a strong cup of coffee.
