I remember there was a time that I uploaded to this Flickr in hopes of being popular or boosting my self-esteem. No longer. This collection of images is here so that I might inspire others, express my thoughts and my heart, and hopefully touch somebody in a way that an image hasn't before.
I am in love with the Lord God. I pray that these images reflect His love and beauty in some way to you.

    "spence. spence finnley.
i dont know you personally, but i feel like i do because your photographs are so expressive of yourself, even the non-self ones. they allow everyone to see the world as you see it, which is beautiful, colorful, and never ever mundane. if i ever find myself empty on inspiration, i look at your stream and am immediately satisfied. you inspire me to go climb rocks, climb trees, develop a personal relationship with my car, and document even the most typical day.
youre going amazing places, kid. never ever stop :]"

"i recently discovered his photostream by chance, and i've been hooked every since.
i love the way he works with composition as well as digital manipulation. having a band of color in his photos seems to be his signature. and i love it. it makes his work instantly recognizable.
though you could tell his images were manipulated due to the fact our world isn't rainbow-banded, his images would make anyone wished it was.

i love his work. the simplicity and complexities juxtaposed together makes me think he will one day be big."

    "Dear Spencer Finnley,

I never do testimonials like this, but yours is a special case because your photography is so brilliant.

You may think your creativity is starting to fail you, but I think it's the absolute opposite. You're incredibly creative and innovative; even your photographs that don't have as complex ideas as the others are beautiful and expressive in a simple way that people struggle to capture.

You use light perfectly. Your photographs are phenomenal and each one of them reflect something great and personal. You put your emotions into your work and it's obvious.

Your photos help people enjoy life. Your pictures are more than that--they are memories, frozen moments in time, art, aspirations.

    You're going far.
    You'll be fine.

    Much love,
    sunshine doll"

"this is about my 5th or 6th testimonial i've written on flickr. One thing i can say about Spencer is that it is very clear that from where he already is, he is headed for great things. He has a very discerning eye already; he knows what he likes and what he does not like, and from what i see he is very, very willing to learn more and take in all the information he needs to better himself. His photos have an authenticy a lot of photos of flickr lack. He's honest with himself and his continual growth and progression really impresses me. Very supportive of other photographers, positive in his efforts and willing to learn, Spencer is going to go far."

Thank you, Spencer, for being an inspiration to me. Keep posting pictures and progressing even more.

    You'll be big one day."

    Aster-oid says:

"There's this guy on Flickr who's called Spencer Finnley and lives in what, at least to me, looks like the American Frontier... Desert lands, canyons and rocks upon rocks seem to be his natural habitat at the moment!..
Now, when this guy went to his local Mall a few months ago and bought a genuine Greek sailor's hat, I 'm quite sure the last thing he expected was that this specific hat would also get him a genuine Greek friend from the other end of the world: Athens, Greece - but this is exactly what happened!
I don't remember where or how I just happened to come across a picture of Spencer wearing this very hat against a dramatic background, but this picture really caught my attention and not so much because of the hat but more because of the background which was the kind of background one imagines a real, tough and tested Greek sailor in!
"Good work", I immediately thought and Spencer has been in my contacts list since then.
What sets Spencer and his photography apart from the rest on Flickr is that this is a young guy who fits my motto: "Live first, shoot later!". Spencer actually lives his life among his family, his friends, boys and girls, his dog and his school, as any normal teenager would, but he also stops from time to time and captures for us and possibly for eternity a guy, a girl, a moment of activity or a moment of peace and solitude - he even captures himself quite often - and then shares these precious, lived out, moments with us.
Bothering to check out Spencer's photostream as a whole, one suddenly realizes that, through his often original angles and compositions, as well as through his occasional experimentations with lighting and treatment, Spencer offers us - older people or foreigners - fragments of a real, genuine, now tangible, everyday life - the life of an American youth in a place with no trees, as he likes to point out, but, more importantly, a place quite apart from the familiar big cities lifestyle, ruckus and brouhaha!..
This is pretty much what I particularly appreciate personally, about the photography of my young friend, Spencer Finnley, and this is what makes me visit and revisit his photostream on Flickr! This is also pretty much why I would suggest that any of you do the same thing!..
Go on and grow strong, Spencer - first as a man and then as a photographer!"
