RETIRED after years of working in an office and the bush around Canberra. I have been an amateur photographer since 1955 when I took some of these shots at school & around NSW with my Brownie Box.
A few years of caving, www.flickr.com/photos/spelio/2110063781/in/photostream/ bushwalking and a little climbing gave me a large collection of photos, slides and negs. using Retinette, Pentaxs, Minoltas, Hasselblads and 8mm & MiniDV digital video, now using digital like the rest of you..
Lost a few 1000 work slides and negatives in the 2003 Canberra bushfires, but have a few surviving shots at home still to load here.

Now with a couple of scanners, would love to share them with more friends, you and maybe posterity!
For a few years I had a site at www.ozimages.com.au This is a great resource & community of photographers.
I love places on Flickr like this..

I usually visit the profile of anyone who leaves a comment and if they have similar interests and a good collection of interesting images I will make them a contact.
So when I search for an image for a Gallery or place to look up, I can restrict the search to contacts to avoid too many hits of irrelevant images, or even incorrectly tagged ones!
It is interesting to view a few Groups that my contacts belong to, and that explains why I have joined so many, it also helps in searches for worthwhile images.

Some visitors to my images......

But unfortunately, this App was only recently added so it misses out on the first 110,000 views!!
Now reached 250,000 views in Dec 2011 and getting 300-600 views a day from Contacts and visitors, Thanks to you all!

I just acquired "A Nation In The Making Australia at the Dawn of the Modern Era", and the introduction describes the Tyrrell collection as covering..."urban expansion, leisure activities, views, vistas and spectacular natural landscapes including caves, beaches, trees, waterfalls and gullies, farm machinery and farming practices, the natural environment being transformed into farming land, rural and urban fashion and dress, portraits, pets and livestock, labour scenes including sheep shearing and mining, shipping and other forms of land and water transportation (including camel trains and bicycles), roads, streets, railway stations and ferry wharves...."

I felt that this just about describes my collection here, and many of my contacts! I hope you find many images of interest and can spare a moment to leave a comment or two.

    Prolonged Sunlight says:

"Spelio's photos remind me of 'exploring Australia' stuff like old Leyland Brothers and Bill Peach books. Of a time when exploration and curiosity were still good, before information-age cynicism hit. And places I'd rather be!

The men's haircuts of the era were rather fetching too. Men with nice hair and an interest in geology getting around in old Holdens - too good.

    Onya Spelio!"
