  "Well, I'm going to say it before any one else does, if they haven't already done so... Carmen is a genius. O.K., so how can I qualify this in today's media saturated world, where the word "genius" is applied both frequently and flippantly?
  
  Firstly, Carmen is a woman who turns the camera on herself and, in doing so, becomes both voyeur and exhibitor, artist and model. This is artistically important, and follows in an artistic tradition, however it isn't only Carmen who adopts this technique. There are other reasons why I make my claim...
  
  Secondly, Carmens' beautiful photographs are so technically accomplished and her modeling skills, so honed, that she mimicks the Old Masters with her portraiture. We not only get the outer beauty of Carmen's obvious physical attractiveness, we also get the inner beauty of subjective, affective human experience.
  
  Thirdly, Carmen transcends the limitations of the Internet (her stage) revealing an evocation of emotion and subjective human experience that precisely expresses the human condition, within the boundaries of Internet usage.   "A woman of incredible beauty, talent, grace, her photographs show a lovely soul. Carmen was one of the first photographers I viewed on flickr. I gasped at a photograph of her wearing a wig and holding a piece of fruit. I wanted with all my heart to be that beautiful woman. Then to find she was the photographer as well... I closed her stream and vowed never to look again.
  
  Of course, I came back, how could I not? so many amazing images to see, such variety... after I calmed, after I decided to enjoy, I left comments of appreciation.

  "Solea and I go way back. I remember it was the summer of 1982 and she and I were just little ones back then living on the island of Puka Puka. We spent our days dreaming of starting a business together catering towards the grooming of llamas. We would concoct new magical recipes for yogurt and then dress badgers and other rodents in 80’s new wave costumes so that we could shoot them in highly choreographed music videos set to the music of “Girls On Film’ by Duran Duran. Later in the 80’s we started a metal band called “Dark Sasquatch” and went on tour with the band the “Scorpions.”… We were huge in Paraguay and Missouri. You should hear Solea rip it on the bass…hold onto your mind!
  
  In all seriousness folks, Solea is an artist. I can’t stress enough that everyone should take the time to look at her work. She has this remarkable ability to remind us of the beautiful/ universal truths of being human and what it means to be a participant of nature. I have always felt that the best artists make the best storytellers and that is exactly how I dub Solea."

Take a look at any Solea shot and you’ll have to wade through the crowds of comments from her legions of admiring punters to get a glimpse of the latest masterpiece. This woman provides a free lesson in light as far as I’m concerned. I have learned so much so quickly from Carmen’s moody black & whites and wonderfully-lit portraits. Her images have not so much crawled under my skin as aggressively squatted in my frontal lobes. There are a select few on Flickr who have the power to do this – haunt you with their images long after you’ve seen them, but she’s one. There is no doubt in my mind that my own photos (those of a more sober nature, at least :) have improved since I’ve been exposed to hers, even over such a short period of time. The fact that Carmen takes great pains to positively comment on other people’s work and acknowledge those leaving her feedback is a indication of her adorable nature. I’m smitten, I admit. Two of her photographs I am impelled to mention specifically: her “Yo, io, eu etc.” portrait, which is easily one of my absolute Flickr favourites, and “On My Way”, a simple, but oh-so-effective landscape that I could sit and stare at for far too long.
