Who is Ski Himalaya?

SkiHimalaya is the registered trading name of Peter Robinson. Peter has been appointed as a sales and marketing agent for a number of Gulmarg's leading hotels (plus other quality lodgings in Srinagar and Delhi) focussing on bringing international visitors to Kashmir.

In January 2006 Ski Himalaya commenced our long standing plans to provide local transport and mountain guiding services at Gulmarg ("Kashmir Powdercats"). We were delighted, in Kashmir Powdercats' first winter of operation, to be able to directly employ ten people from Gulmarg's local communities.

When not in Kashmir Peter works with an Australian professional services firm located in the heart of Sydney's CBD.

Peter and his brothers (Justin, Philip and Simon) have been visiting Gulmarg since the winter of 1994. By coincidence, the Kashmiri links of Peter's wife Sally go back to the 1940s, when Sally's father's family lived at Peshawar in modern day Pakistan. The family made a number of visits to Kashmir, with an old letter written by Sally's grandfather observing:

"remoteness has helped to keep Kashmir relatively unspoilt. It has escaped the mass enthusiasm of our trans-Pacific cousins. During my stay, I did not even see a single representative of the House of Cooks, though I dont doubt that these renowned purveyors of canned travel are close at hand. The remoteness, the Himalayan location, and the permeating peacefulness, savour of the mythical Shangri-La".
