I haven't been on Flickr a lot in the past year for a couple of reasons. I hope to take more photos now that we're settled down.

I love sharing my photos and have come to rely on my Flickr contacts for feedback. However, please remember that these photos are copyright-protected and not available for any use without my permission.

In March of 2004, my friends and husband got me a Nikon Coolpix 2200 (which he has now inherited). When I got my camera, I was overjoyed to find a new way of presenting images of my world, and I quickly became completely addicted.

The great thing about photography is that it changes your way of seeing. One night I took a walk--one of those perfect smoke-scented twilights that could just as easily be spring or fall. I didn't bring my camera because I knew from experience how poorly my little Coolpix performed under those light conditions. But as I walked, I looked around, thinking: Those colors! Those shapes! Cyan curtains in a cream-colored building. A neon-green light. Snap. Snap. The fact that I didn't actually take the photos is almost irrelevant; they're in my head.

In November of 2005 I got a Canon Powershot S2 and several new toys to go with it and am hoping to get a D70 or a Rebel in a year or two. I also carry around a Panasonic DMC-TZ1because it's little and has a fast shutter and I can loop it on my belt with my cell phone and whip it out whenever anything interesting turns up. I miss my little Coolpix, though.

If I had to sum it up, I'd say that I strive to make people take a second look at ordinary things and see how extraordinary the world around us is.

I have far to go in terms of training, technique, and equipment. But regardless of how fancy my cameras, printers, or software applications are in the future, I don't think anything will ever top the value of the gift I got in that little Nikon.
