Two embarrassing admissions. I do not really know what makes a good photograph. So, I have an even more woeful grasp of how to go about making one. All I know is what pleases my eye and mind.
Flickr is my "digital sketchbook" of photography, just a place to put up images for various reasons, rather like a bulletin board where I can tack up items for friends to see or for myself to evaluate over time.

For those who don't speak Mandarin, my flickr nickname is a romanization of a (slightly derogatory) term (书呆子 or 書呆子), which is pronounced: shoo-die-zuh (not "shoo daisy") ;-) and means something like "bookworm".
I am a professor of (modern Chinese) history at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. I make photos in my spare time.
