Shirlaine is a Manchester based freelance photographer specialising in music, fashion and portrait photography.


As well as working for a number of magazines and designers, with photographs published in The Guardian, The New York Times, NME, Rolling Stone, The Telegraph and Vogue, and posters in Kerrang! and Total Guitar, her fashion and music clients include Adidas, BBC, Gola, HMV, Hugo, Jack Daniels, Living TV and XFM.

Shirlaine has photographed promotional images and is featured on the official websites of several bands including Fightstar, Kasabian, The Subways and Unkle, and CD covers include Aim, The Courteeners and The Longcut. She has photographed Morrissey for his own personal collection and her live shots feature on the Greatest Hits tour program and 2008 calendar for McFly and the current Westlife DVD. Her illustration and design work has been used for band logos and CD covers, as well as magazine covers, t-shirts and merchandising.

Shooting film and photography for fourteen years, Shirlaine has directed music videos with a variety of artists, she also worked as a staff lighting camera woman and an in house photographer for nine years, producing key international promotional and merchandising images and programming. Shirlaine's own short film Good Girl, Bad Dog won several awards, including the Royal Television Society's non-fiction award, and spurred her interest in detailed yet abstract images,

Shirlaine is proud to be an official photographer for Love Music Hate Racism, and as a junk food vegan is happy to offer discounted rates to animal welfare organisations.

    "I have met Shirlaine once in my life and she was lovley....
    it was V2007 and the rain was coming down so hard I thiught we may have to build an ark! My 24-70 lens decided it was far to wet to work and promptly died. Having met Shirlaine about 20 seconds before this happened and she promptly offered to loan me another lens!
    Not only is she kind ( and funny) her pictures are bloomin ace as well!"

    Right best get to the point then...

    "I Jon Shackleton learnt everything I know about the music business and gig photography from Shirlaine Forest" - Unless you're Clint Boon or listen to XFM a lot, you wont get that, but its safe to say Shirlaine has incredible talent and definitely worth keeping an eye on! Not only are her shots straight out of the camera stunning but then she tops it off with PP skills that are very enviable (check out her recent Unkle stuff) .

    This probably wont make print as Shirlaine is incredibly modest, but I'm proud to say I know her as a photographer and more importantly a friend! Very genuine and down to earth is our Shirlaine (if a tad sarcastic at times)...
