Photography has always been a secret love of mine. Too much of life has passed without me pursuing this love.....

The following was written when I first started flickr. A great deal happened along the way that prevented me from pursuing this secret love of mine. As soon as my feet are back on the ground I will involve myself much more deeply in photography! Wish me luck!!!

Original Profile:

Dec. 2005
Strangely enough, life presented me with an unexpected opportunity.

The reason I now have a Nikon D70s is because of the website listed below. (Not an ad, just a testimonial to serendipity.) For quite some time I have been frustrated and have been craving and craving a camera with more control than my Canon PowerShot S230, (hadn't been able to afford one, unfortunately).

So imagine my surprise and gratitude to find out that because my little company had the good fortune to sell a lot of Motorola product I was *given* a DSLR camera! I didn't even know what it was until it arrived!

Imagine that.

Unbelievable, but a real dream come true!

Now I am slowly trying to figure out how to use it. I would like to take classes, but don't know if I can.... We'll see. Step-by-step. (I still hope to be taking classes in the future!)

Oh, and speaking of step-by-step, I am friend of Bill W.

A bit more about ShawnXian...

Hometown: San Francisco East Bay Area
Interests: Photography, writing, reading, nature, 12-Step, paths-with-heart, The Power of NOW, the Sacred, and the joy of appreciating photosynthesis. The Gaia Hypothesis.
Favorite Books & Authors: I love to read, and am always reading at least two books at a time, usually with an Analog thrown in. Raymond Carver, John Steinbeck, Henry James, Douglas Adams, Jack London, Philip Pullman, Richard Brautigan, John Cheever, Gary Snyder, Emmet Fox and more. ~ The Power of NOW ~ Sci-Fi & Fantasy, too...., Wind in the Willows
Favorite Movies, Stars & Directors: I am a film lover and will watch just about anything except for slasher movies. Even if it is awful I will enjoy examining why. I really enjoy The Big Lebowski, Dogma, Oh Brother Where Art Thou and anything from the Cohen Brothers, most things from Kevin Smith. The Usual Suspects, Kung Fu Hustle, Pulp Fiction, Matrix, Clerks II, Jackie Brown (especially enjoy the soundtrack). Oh, and Mindwalk (1990) is truly an insightful, stimulating, intriguing, thought-provoking film and is worth watching if you like to think deeply. I highly recommend it. Mindwalk's tag line is: A Film for Passionate Thinkers.
Favorite Music & Artists: Paul Winter's Common Ground. Nature's sounds, Whale Song, Wolves, Eagles, Song Birds, Wind, Rain, Water. Really. The sound track from Jackie Brown is excellent! And tons of other music except for heavy metal. Verdi's La Traviata brings forth much joy for me!
