40 years farting around with photography, from my Kodak Instamatic 126 to a Canon DSLR and I am still not very good at it.

I'm originally from Australia arrived in NI at age 5. Been here ever since, bar about 4 years working in England after university. Have worked for BBC NI, as an engineer, since July 1989 mostly in Belfast but sometimes at Radio Foyle. At least all the travel from my home in Castlerock to and from work in Belfast/Foyle takes me through some really photogenic scenery.

July 2011: Well I’ve been flickring for three years now and in that time I’ve seen a lot of great photographs and, more importantly, made a lot of wonderful new friends. One of those flickr friends became so much more and on 1pm 14th February 2011 at Coleraine Council Offices she became my Wife. We streamed the wedding live online and were joined by many of our flickr friends from around the world. So to say flickr has changed my life would be an understatement. Check my Amanda’s photostream here. www.flickr.com/people/crafted/

But, here is always a but isn’t there, I feel at times I have too many contacts to keep up to date with so for the moment I’m not going to add any more flickrites to my contact list and I’m sorry but I have removed some of my existing contacts for the same reason. Please don’t be offended if either I have not added you as contact when you add me or removed you, it won’t stop me visiting your photostream, or you mine.

Please feel free to criticise my photos - as long as it is constructive. We all grow on critciisim, not just on nice comments!

Flickr is a photo sharing site therefore if you coment on, and/or fave my photos, but have no photos of your own for me to view you WILL be blocked.

Also I do not join groups that say you must comment/award/fav X others so please do not be offended if I turn such invites down.

I also take my work very seriously as you can see,

Me on a lines test at Christ Church C of I Castlerock.

Some info rung out of me by one of my contacts,I'm not going to forget this Paul so watch your back!!

"the first shot of Shane's I saw was the ice cream van on the beach and I've been hooked ever since! he does the best landscapes here on Flickr and I always look forward to looking at his photostream. "Shane, what can I say about you. This has been really hard for me to write. I have been trying for a while but it never seems quite good enough to me but hopefully you understand my words. I call you sunshine which you probably hate :-P oh well.. lol.. You are a ray of sunshine to me. Always there for a kind word or one hell of a laugh. A nutter you certainly are and better stay. Shane's photos are a mix of beauty, what he loves, some nutty bits and more than a few belly laughs. It's my honor to call him my friend. If you don't already know I adore you then you're daft since Ive already told you more than once. Thank you for being my ear when needed and my ray of light on the days the sun just doesn't seem to rise for me xx"

"I couldn't think of a more apt name for Shane than "Cuddly Nutter". I thought I was as mad as a hatter but Shane beats me hands down!!! Probably the most GENUINE person I have ever met and I have met a lot of people in my life. Shane has had a few curve balls tossed his way but he has slogged them right back and right out of the ball park. Oh how he makes me laugh and I mean REALLY laugh. I swear he and I are both missing lungs because we laugh so much. You only have to look at his images to know that he loves live (and Paddy/Belleek/Waterford/Bushmills/his camera/the blue meanie/his friends), the photo of Shane with a nurse when he was a kid will be forever etched in my brain as that is Shane to an absolute T. You are my friend Shane, my shoulder to cry on, my fellow co-conspirator, the person who holds me together when things are too much and I am blessed to know you XXXXXXXXX"

"I love Shane's take on things especially his fabulous portrait shots. He seems to have a way of making people at ease and their personalities just shine through. Except for any of me as I am far prettier.. mwahahaha
He has many fabulous landscapes also in his stream. He is blessed to live in an exceptionally beautiful part of the world and he has captured these places in all their glory. Oh and he likes donkeys."

"Looking at Shane's stream is a delight! Shane can turn his hand to any form of photography - always different. But I think he excels at informal portraits of people engaged in all sorts of activities around Ireland. He manages to bring out the best in his subjects, putting them totally at ease and they are a delight to see. He has captured little snapshots of life in this province going back over 30 years - full of interest - some day I hope to purchase the book! Meantime I intend enjoying each new snippet and surprise that he comes up with."
