Hello and welcome to the Shackleton Centenary Expedition's flickr site!

We are a team of descendents of Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1907-1909 Nimrod Expedition, an expedition in which the team famously had to turn back 97 miles from the South Pole.

One hundred years to the day we are looking to finish what our ancestors began, and reach the South Pole in January 2009. We are doing this in order to draw people's attention to a newly launched Shackleton Foundation which aims to give out charitable grants of £10,000 for ideas that are bold, innovative, and useful.

We think that this is a great way to honour the memory of Sir Ernest Shackleton, and we hope that you do to.
