Hi, my name's Stewart (how I got the name Semi-detached is a long story and I also used to call myself Mel - hence the use on the testimonials on the right) and I'm based in Edinburgh; a fine city and the capital of Scotland; a country of big hills, beautiful views, great people but mostly rubbish (Dreich) weather. I still love the place, though!
I've been into digital photography since the summer of 2005 and haven't looked back since. I started with a small compact digital camera (a lovely little thing but v.tricky to do HDRs and such with!) but now I own a Nikon DSLR which has given me a lot more options to play with, especially in low light. ***Update - I've also bought a wee Canon Powershot A720 as I lost my little compact. It does videos so I may well try my hand at uploading one on here!***
As you may see from viewing my photostream, I am generally uninterested in shooting my pictures and posting them 'as is' with little or no modification. I regard the just-shot picture as a canvas, a 'pre-picture' upon which to do what I like best - graphical manipulation. My heroes in this regard are numerous (some of them are on Flickr) and most of them come from the worlds of graphic design, Architecture and graffiti.
My main areas of interest are urban geometry, art, architecture, bright and shiny things (lights) and landscapes. I do the occasional 'person' shot and will definitely do more in the future.
It goes without saying that I've seen some excellent photos on Flickr from some very talented members and I think it's a great place to learn new techniques and styles.
Please MESSAGE ME if you'd like to use any of my images (they are copyrighted) and/or if you have any comments or opinions. I'd love to hear from you.
Cheers,
S.

Testimonials
e|[d]|ge. says:
"Mel shows great talent throughout his stream. Colors bounce off of the page into your lap . Image to image is filled with emotion and moods that captivate the viewer. :)"
Alessandro Coiro Mas says:
"His pictures are all priceless. He seems to know all the tricks. His photostream has all the colors in the world. He's very creative."
Gizmo_F says:
"One of my favourite photographers on flickr.
He produces great work, always seems to choose the best or most unique angle and has an eye for great geometric shapes which I particularly enjoy.
Clearly also an adept at post-processing but equally matches this with the quality of his shooting in the first instance.
Keep up the great work, Semi-detached. :)
Giz"
