White haired guy in the mostly the retired mode. After a year or so of complete retirement I got bored and started teaching again, online, mostly for the University of Arizona. I read a lot, like beer, love Netflix, and travel is the best.

Photography. I had assorted cameras as a kid but things got really serious when I was in the Army in Germany from 1960-1962. There was an open photo lab on base, run by a knowledgeable professional photographer (Thanks, Schulz!) I acquired an Argus C-3, then a Pentacon, and finally a Pentax. All 35mm. Shot lots of b&w, and slides, most of which I still have. Fooled around with a twin-lens reflex for a while.

Years later I lost most of the cameras in a burglary in New Orleans. By then I was well and truly frustrated with the 35mm format for taking anything in the American southwest where I had been living for a long time. Those teeny negatives in those huge spaces just did not work.

Time goes by, retirement draws near. I had long been promising myself a large format camera. I looked at this, I looked at that, but constantly in the back of my mind was the question "ok, what ya going to do for a darkroom." Then an old Army buddy and fellow photo geek pointed out with that a digital camera I did not need a darkroom. Thanks Bill!

So I got a Canon Powershot A530 to sort of test the waters. Hmmm, this is pretty neat. The next step was the Sony DSC-R1 which offered the most megapixels for the money I could spend. It's kind of an odd duck of a camera, but after 4 years of using it I'm not about to give it up. That flexible LCD lets me do all kinds of things you cannot do with a DSLR.

The 11 in the middle of Desert Sailor is because Yahoo and I got crosswise somewhere along the line over user names and passwords. I had to start from scratch. Everything else is just Desert Sailor.
