Sean Salazar was born in 1966 at Seattle’s Harborview Hospital, King County, Washington. He was one of five children raised by a single mother in an extended family that is of Hispanic and African American heritage. Sean grew up in several of Seattle’s low income multi-racial and multi-cultural housing projects inspired respect for and appreciation of racial and cultural differences. Sean’s direct experience with the negative effects of poverty has helped him be compassionate about improving the life of the underprivileged. Sean’s solutions encourage individual responsibility and success instead of suppression and dependence. Therefore, Sean’s commitment to the people is to give them a hand up not a hand out.
