**If you have not commented on or at least favourited a couple of my photos when you add me as a contact it is highly unlikely I will reciprocate. I believe flickr is meant to be a community where we share.
I started in photography because of my Dad. At one time he was a keen (and not unskilled) photographer himself. After watching him taking photos I pleaded with my parents to buy me a camera, and around twenty years ago I recieved my heart's desire one christmas, a Praktica MTL5B. It was the same camera my Dad owned. I still have it to this day.
I immediately fell in love with it and started taking lots of photos. Unfortunately the cost of film and processing proved too much for my pocket money and the camera soon fell into disuse.
Fast forward to 2002 when I bought my first computer. An offer with it enabled me to buy my first digital camera, a 3.1MP Kodak easyshare.
It immediately rekindled my passion for photography.
The Kodak went with me around Australia and New Zealand in 2003/4 taking thousands of photos, many of which I am still proud!
After a while my interest began to wain again as I became frustrated at the limitations of a compact. I simply didn't want to take photos with it when I knew the quality wouldn't be great.
For christmas 2006 I recieved a Canon Powershot S3 IS, an ammalgamation of presents from quite a few people.
I adored the camera and started taking hundreds of shots and when a friend introduced me to flickr, I became obsessed! Suddenly photography was no longer "just a hobby" I didn't have to take photos simply for recording where I'd been. I could try to take photos for pure love of photography and art, and someone somewhere would appreciate them!
Over the course of the next year I took over 11,000 shots with the Canon, learning in spades as I went along. I posted lots of photos to "rate me" type groups and gobbled up the advice given. I bought and read numerous photography books. I read and re-read the manual to try to utilise all the camera's features.
By the time christmas 2007 came around I was frustrated again. The limitations of the bridge camera were causing me problems. Once again I tried to get enough money together through christmas presents to be able to afford a dSLR. Unfortunately it looked like I would fall short, until at the last minute, a very generous christmas present took me past the post!
I bought a Nikon D40 with the 18-55 kit lens. What a shame that a month of terrible weather followed the purchase on Christmas eve 2007!
I can't wait til my degree is finished and I am back in a job so I can buy the kit I want. That new Nikon D300 looks good............
Well here I am in a new grad job but the wage didn't stretch to a D300, it didn't really stretch to the D200 I bought instead either, but that's what credit cards are for I guess
