I first became interested in photography in High School. But I couldn't afford a camera so I had to join the yearbook staff and use a borrowed camera until I'd spent plenty of time driving a cab and delivering Chinese food. Finally after senior year I got one. A nice shiny Canon AE-1! During that summer and the first year of college at Lawrence University (as a music major) I took a lot of photos. But never got any developed. Didn't have the cash. At the end of that year the camera was stolen. So that was that for a few years.

Years later I got a hold of a used Minolta X-700 (still right here loaded with Tri-X.) I found my old exposed and somehow still 'ok' film, got the equipment and started up again. This time I could develop the film and make prints. Mostly I was on when I had an apartment with good space to set up the enlarger and off when I didn't. Through the years I had a couple of digitals, but nothing much came of those.

Then in 2008 I got interested again. I picked up a Fuji S700/S5700 and started taking a lot of photos. It wasn't long before I felt the SLR pull against the limitations of a bridge camera. That lead me to the search for something with the features I needed and wanted at the price I could swing, and I was happy to find Sony Alpha 200. Now I'm even happier with the A700.

I take a lot of exposures. Far more than I'll show. And the learning process is never ending. Like many others I'd like to be able to do it for a living (or at least a nice side thing) but for now it's for the enjoyment of the art.
