Kurt Schlatzer's photostream |
Welcome
I am a creative photographer living and working in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I have experience working in many styles/genres of photography, but I prefer portrait, beauty, fashion, editorial and fine art projects.
I work with digital and film (medium & large format)
Art and technology have always been my passions. Although I’ve worked in numerous artistic mediums like sculpture, painting and music, photography has been the one medium that I enjoy over all others. It has really allowed me to satisfy my inner artist and my inner geek equally.
Film:
Bronica ETRS, Canon A-1, Cosina CT-7, Yashica D, Toyo 4x5
Digital:
Canon 50D, 20D, and G10, mobile phone

"Even if you hate Kurt himself, just come along to see the shots of his amazing jester-like little kitty, Spyder.

"That Kurt..
is a Solid guy.. you get that sense about him right off.. then you see he's quiet, as so many photographers are.. and difficult to read right away, but there's seething energy in there.. you just Know it..
As "Professional Seers" we show others what we see... but to do that, effectively, we have to step out of the way.. and... well.. we're busy
--Looking.
Kurt can wear this Face that does Not betray his absolute willingness to be swept up by life, but give him something to photograph, and whether it's his idea or not, his expression easily assumes a soft glow, warming to the challenge after giving it a good hard look first. He enjoys seeing The Photograph in a subject before he even starts.. then he uses his long-practiced and beloved craft to digitize it for us... Just as he previsualized it, for the most part. That's what gives his professional jobs their consistency as well as their craftsmanship.. Vision+Craft --the total kit in a pro photographer, There, I tell ya!
It's little wonder Kurt's a cat person, too..
he's always paying attention.. especially as in his photo titled "For .serena", sensitively captured on the sidelines during one of his photoshoots. Look it up!
From what I can tell, Photography for Kurt is a Win-Win operation.. he finds gratification in the power the medium gives him to focus his otherwise sizzling sparkler energies and attentions..
even as he weilds that energy in forging light into silver.. or it would have been silver, just a couple of short decades ago.. now, at least here on your Flickr screen.. it's Light, afterall.
Do Look.
And for a sampling of the faces he wears, browse the Raleigh Flickr Meetup group for a few of his fellow members' renderings of him, from a recent portrait meetup session.
Looking forward to the next meetup shoots, Kurt.

"I know Kurt likes to shoot pets, but he is exceptional at everything he shoots. His photos have such creativity and man can he finish it off in post production. His artstic vision is stunning. And on top of it, hes a great guy and treats everyone with respect."

"Life through Kurt's eyes: it's a trip that I recommend to everybody.
Then you can see how many feelings and emotions are contained in each and every of his subjects.
And if that wasn't enough, any post processing he applies is such that the viewer is drawn into the photo even more.
And this is art.. great art!
You can't miss this trip."8th September, 2006

"I am grateful to Flickr for giving me the chance to meet and share ideas with many skilled and creative people, and none more-so than Kurt. He is not only a very talented photographer, but he is also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. This comes through in his art. When I look at his portraits I'm consistantly impressed with their honest and thoughtful qualities. Not only does he have an eye for outstanding composition and strong technical skills, but I'm convinced that his open and warm personality contributes significantly to his ability to create open and honest images with his subjects. And don't get me started on his award winning critter pictures! ;)"
