As a documentary photographer I believe the significance of something will be apparent if I let it be. I am aware how the sensation of a photograph being either beautiful or truthful sometimes conflicts. I know my work is never "neutral". Every representation is political, either by what it says or neglects to say, because it exists in a world where all meaning is contested. Even a picture of something simple and natural for example may have different meaning for someone living in wealth than someone living in poverty. A photograph of stones will never heal the injustice of wealth and poverty. But it may enrich people's lives by its presence. Whereas all of the journalistic images of war, poverty, celebrity excess, etc. that our environment is saturated with have not begun to make people drastically modify their behavior.
