Santa Ana Suzuki Strings is an Urban Suzuki program in Orange County, CA. We are part of the Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center www.occtac.org which provides services for children at risk and special needs students in the Orange County area.
In our first year we already have a string program with 30 plus students and counting. We can grow as fast as we can obtain violins for the children. OCCTAC already servers about 1000 families. After two years in our newer larger facility we are already bursting at the seams.
Santa Ana Suzuki Strings offers PreTwinkle classes for preschoolers and their parents. We have a growing number of new Twinklers and intermediate students from other programs.
We also offer group lessons on Saturday afternoons which combine OCCTAC students with Suzuki Students from the Talent Education Center.
Afterward Parents attend Suzuki parenting classes and organize activities for the program.
Interns for the program also support after school violin classes for older students from the publicschools. If you are a Violin or string major at your college or University please contact OCCTAC about a position.

Violin Sensei says:
"Santa Ana Suzuki Strings was started at OCCTAC in the city of Santa Ana by a Suzuki Violin Teacher who studied in Japan with Dr. Suzuki from 1989-1992. When she returned to California in the Spring of 92' streets of LA were burning with unrest. As she drove through Santa Ana the city was under curfew. She burned in her heart with a desire to make a difference. Surely if music teachers in South America could use music to narrow the divide between economic classes and provide social changes and opportunities for children, why couldn't it be done in CA. That must be what Suzuki Sensei sent her home to do.
It took a search of 15 years to find a non-profit arts program like OCCTAC with a Director who would listen to her ideas. Dr. Jimenez believed that children at risk in her program could benefit from studying violin in a Suzuki program and in the Summer of 06 they started the first classes for preschool children. At the end of their first year they were able to obtain their first instruments. The chldren were bowing on their shoulders and preparing to hold the violin on their shoulders. This Spring at least 3 of the students from the program will be participating in the OC Suzuki Festival. We lood forward to seeing many more in the future."30th October, 2007
