Family

During my 1st marriage, we had 5 kids (four are living). My second husband has two children. I have two grandchildren and more on the way. My first grandchild is profoundly autistic and nonverbal.

Art

My first two art dolls got me juried into a local art gallery (Lemon Street Art Gallery, Kenosha, WI) in 2005. Two of my polymer clay beads appear in the book Polymer Artists Showcase, by tejae floyde (she often doesn't capitalize her first and last name).

In my mid 40s, I realized I could sculpt. Now 51, I am sporadically teaching myself to paint. My preference is watermedia -- fluid acrylics, watercolor, water soluble pastels, watercolor pencils, inks, gouache.

16 Things About Me:

1. I used to be an Anatomical Pathology Technician, meaning I assisted in the performance of clinical, federal, state forensic, and pediatric autopsies and have a mind for things medical. I’d read Pathology books and medical magazines in my free time at work.
2. I’m functionally obsessive – I can immerse myself in a passion for 15 hours or more a day with no burnout.
3. Every few years now, I totally switch gears and get into a completely different art form where just about everything is out of my comfort zone. This has resulted in joining an art gallery for a bit and getting published in the book, Polymer Clay Artist Showcase, by tejae floyde (she spells her name completely in lower case).
4. Six years after my first marriage ended, I literally wished on a star for a soul mate. So did my now second husband. We'll have been married 11 years, as of October of 2011, and feel blessed every day.
5. I’m a hedonist when it comes to simple things like tea, chocolate, marzipan, and hugs.
6. I’m easily amused. Once, I made an entire city out of paper and tape.
7. I’m artistically tortured. A bit. Researching art tutorials obsessively is often a form of procrastination.
8. Although I am a mix of visual and pattern thinker by nature, I sometimes blog obsessively.
9. My favorite cuisines are NW Indian (Punjabi), Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, and Baltic.
10. I don’t watch a lot of TV or sports. I’d rather be dooooing something!
11. I grew up around upper middle and upper class people but prefer jeans, cotton shirts, sandals, sneakers and clogs. I’d feel more comfortable in a dirt floor hut with my passions than surrounded by bitter phony pent up people.
12. I’m happiest when the sun is shining and I have good people around me.
13. My art studio is completely in order, with everything priced, dated and in exact (!) places. Really.
14. Because my mom was a 1st generation American language teacher, I grew up surrounded by immigrants and different languages, cultures.
15. I wasn’t allowed to listen to popular American music or read comic books (they’ll rot your brain!) while growing up. My husband and I see all the movies based on Marvel comics and the like. (I’m also a True Blood fan and find folk tales and mythology artistically inspiring.)
16. I love life and am a very passionate person, though most casual observers wouldn't think so (I'm on the autism spectrum). Don't put so much faith in reading facial expressions and how someone presents themselves, face to face. Pay attention to what they're actually doing. That'll tell you far more about who a person is!
