Sheriff Tom Knight is the tenth Sheriff to serve the citizens of Sarasota County. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office holds county-wide jurisdiction, but the primary service area is all 572 square miles of unincorporated Sarasota County, which is home to an estimated 387,000 residents. Our agency is responsible for Law Enforcement, Corrections, Courts and Communications. We have nearly 1,000 sworn and civilian employees and over 100 volunteers assist in various areas.
