I have been a traveler since I was 16 years old when I went to live in the Netherlands as an exchange student for my junior year of high school. I have lived in four continents for reasonably extended periods of time (Netherlands in high school, Chile for a half year of college, Wisconsin and California for the rest of my life before 2006, and Hong Kong since 2006). So travel has always been a bit in my blood.

In 2009 I bought an SLR for the first time and pretty shortly after became hooked on travel photography. I try to take images which bring out the best of the destinations, regardless of where I am. I got the most publicity for this after my North Korea trip in September 2011, when I had stories published on my work by Wired, BBC, National Public Radio, and GlobalPost, among others.

I was honored to be a short-listed finalist in the 2010 and 2011 Travel Photographer of the Year Awards. I now also have a travel photography blog on HuffingtonPost.

I think the time has never been better to be a photograhper, as the distribution channels available to us are light years ahead of anything we had just 10 years ago. In that vain, I keep my facebook page updated more than any other, and am always hoping for more followers on Facebook, which I think is the greatest business tool in the world, despite the photo world's love of Google+.

For me, the three keys to travel photography are:
1. Always be exploring
2. Wake up early, as light matters more than subject
3. Only show people your best work
