I work full-time and have two hobbies - photography and gliding. And a lifestyle choice, being slave to three cats. Rufus is a ginger short-hair moggie and was born in spring 1996. I got him in December 1999 from West Riding Cat Rescue, and Max and Minnie are Oriental Blacks and came as 14-week old kittens from Amun Cats in December 2007. Am now friends with their breeder and visit, especially when she has kittens!

I started taking photos over 30 years ago and originally shot B&W and did my own developing and printing - I had access to a darkroom where I worked. However it didn't take long for me to switch to colour slides, and then to colour prints plus a Photo CD. My favourite film camera was my Pentax ME Super.

I started taking digital images in 2000, and switched to a Pentax K7 from an Olympus E510 in November 2010. My post-processing is done using Photoshop CS4 which I got for a bargain price as I was an Open University student at the time. The other digital camera I own and use occasionally is a Canon Powershot A70. It is only 3.2 mega-pixels but produces good results as the optics and image processing are excellent.

I have also been scanning my old slides and negatives with a Nikon scanner. The slides I have finished, but the negatives take longer as each strip has to be fed separately.

In 2003 I moved from Leeds to Scotland, so that is now where I take most of my images.

I also joined a camera club - and then a second one - and took the Open Universities T189 course, all of which helped improve my photography and I have had some success in camera club competitions, most notably winning the 'best monochrome' three years in a row at one of them.
