I've been composing photographs off and on since the mid 1970s. Before that I tried my hand at painting, but photography suits me better. Until about 2003, I mainly used simple point'n'shoot cameras. At that point, I bought my first SLR, a Canon Rebel Ti. In September 2008, I bought my Canon Digital Rebel XSi, though, and I've learned more since then than all the time before that.

At this point, my photostream is a mixture of my more artistic efforts and family photos. If you want to avoid the latter, look in the first collection, “Not just snapshots ...”

Since I'm still in a learning mode, I shoot many different things to see what works. Constructive criticism is appreciated. I see my photostream as a photo diary / sketchbook, so there is a little unevenness of theme and quality.

In the time that I have been using Flickr as a learning tool, I have made a lot of progress and this is reflected in my image making. Not only is my seeing sharpened, but technique is becoming more internalized.
