I have a recurring dream. I am walking through a pristine landscape, high in the mountains. A wild storm has just passed. The sky is black with cloud. Behind me the sun suddenly breaks out and illuminates a small collapsed shed, huddled in the wilderness. At the same moment a black crow lands on top of it. I have my lens poised. Nature, the camera and my heart conspire in a moment of synchronicity...as fleeting as the blink of an eye.

My photography is that never ending quest to find a perfect story in a frozen moment of time.

I began taking photographs in the 1970s and have made artist's films since the 1980s. Each film or photo series is a journey into the landscapes of dreams, where visions become a cipher for things unseen, unknowable. Each image is just a weatherworn signpost to a world beyond the boundaries of the frame.

I co-direct a small production company, specialising in animation, video and machinima work with young people. We also design and publish educational resources. Please visit the web site for more information and links to my artist’s film and community based video work.

"The Rusty Projector is a supremely talented photographer, with quite posibly the largest and most complicated digital camera in the world, but then he always was an early adopter of the latest gadgets and gizmos. Can't someone give him a gift Pro subscription?"
