Running Across Borders (RAB) is a non-profit organization that expands economic opportunity to East African youth through running. Our objective is to establish and maintain training camps in East Africa which serve to impart the resources that are required for each athlete to achieve their full potential as a runner and as a student. We utilize the power of sport to empower East African youth and change lives providing a structure whereby each beneficiary can have a sustainable economic future through their passion for running.
AIM
To expand economic opportunity to East African youth through running.
OBJECTIVE
To facilitate opportunities for running, education, and employment for young Ethiopian males and females of rural origin through RAB training camps.
GOALS
The goal of the training camp project is for each individual beneficiary athlete, within 5 years of induction to the camp, to realize economic potential in/through one of the following:
• A professional middle to long distance runner (marathon - <2h, 11m for men, <2h, 27m for women).
• A working professional in a running-related industry, such as exercise physiology research, sports medicine, running tourism, sports administration, or social development through sport.
• A student accepted to begin university in Africa or elsewhere.
DESCRIPTION
The establishment and running of RAB High Altitude Training Camps each provide:
• A structured programme of training for, male and female athletes supervised by the expertise of a Head Coach and Assistant Coach.
• Accommodation, food, sports equipment and medical expertise specific to the needs of an endurance athlete.
• English tuition through a qualified Ethiopian English teacher.
• The opportunity for athletes to compete in domestic and international competitions.
• Potential employment opportunities for athletes and local people acting as sports administrators, cleaners, cooks and running guides to foreign athletes.
The RAB Visit and Train Programme is for foreign athletes who have an interest in improving their running performance or for groups of people who are less competitive but want to experience the running culture combined with popular tourist sites in the country.
