After college, I went to work as a reporter for my hometown newspaper, which was a small, weekly affair. The editor gave me a 35mm camera, and I felt paralyzed. What in the world would I do with this? My good friend, and part-time photographer for the paper, gave a me a few lessons.
For years, though, the world of photography was one into which I seldom ventured. When my first child was born, I visited often, bringing along a point-and-shoot, feeling unskilled enough for anything more.
Eleven years later, I suggested to my husband that we purchase a digital SLR for our anniversary. For a few months, I took about a dozen photos daily, but it wasn't until I started shooting at one of my son's baseball tournaments, that I felt like I had established a great relationship. Now, I hold my Olympus E-volt 500 almost as much as I hold my baby, who is child number six.
