The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been serving the Australian community for over 80 years. From humble beginnings in 1928, the RFDS now has a fleet of 53 aircraft operating from 21 bases around the country. On average One patient every two minutes is assisted by the RFDS.

Traditionally recognised for the provision of emergency services, the RFDS today has expanded its role to incorporate a broader range of health services to rural and remote Australia.

The RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation and whilst supported by the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, relies heavily on fundraising initiatives to finance the purchase and medical fit-out of our aircraft and other major capital initiatives.

Today the RFDS' services include:

- Emergency flights for victims of accident or illness

- Regular clinic flights to isolated communities with teams of doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical specialists

- Inter-hospital transfers to enable higher levels of care to be provided when necessary

- A Rural Women's GP Service which operates across Australia

- A primary care outreach program

- Indigenous health programs

- Support & training to students in rural universities

- Radio and telephone medical consultations with isolated patients

- The provision of medical chests to isolated persons and communities

- An Emergency Rural Training Prgram

- A First Aid Training Program

- A Health Living Program
