I am an amateur photographer who tries very hard to improve my work as much as possible. I love to learn and try new things with my photographs. Flickr has been a great place to do this in the past, but I'm not sure any more if this is true. I am noticing many people who simply trade comments or even use comment scripts. This is sad because it cheapens the Flickr experience and certainly means little.
I believe that critique is one way to learn and grow. Genuine comments (positive or not) from someone who likes and appreciates my photo is much more desirable than some gif pasted under my pic by someone who is simply complying with mandatory requirements in some group. That type of group doesn't interest me.
About Contacts: Contacts, to me are people whom I have contact with first and foremost. Secondly, I believe that contacts should be people who inspire me in some way. Someone who's work I connect with. For this reason, I may not add each person who adds me, please don't be offended. Time is valuable and I want to make the best of my Flickr time.
I believe that presentation of a shot is almost as important as the image itself. It's a pet peeve when I look at a picture I find interesting, but there isn't any information to find out where it is, or in some cases, what it is. I am not going to waste my time on these. Sometimes the shot is even posted sideways!! If you don't have time to orient your shots correctly, I don't have time to look.
