Most of the photos on this site were taken with either my comfortable and reliable Nikon D80 DSLR or my compact Canon S90 PowerShot. I consider the Nikon my principal camera but the PowerShot fits in my pocket and is available for more situations. I also have a Canon WP-DC35 underwater housing for the S90 which allows it to enter conditions that are not possible with the Nikon.

My primary "go to" lens is the venerable Nikkor 35-70/2.8 AF-D. It's sharp as a tack and built like a tank. I'd like it to go a little bit wider on the low end but its price per performance ratio is hard to beat.

When I need to pull in distant objects I tend to grab the Nikkor 70-300/4.5-5.6 AFS VR. Its light weight, long range, and ability to zoom makes it very versatile for difficult and rapidly changing conditions. The bokeh is good but not as pleasing as that on the Nikkor 180/2.8 AFD which is used when shallow depth of field is important.

The Tokina 12-24/4 is pulled out whenever wide views are anticipated. I'm not as comfortable with ultra wide angles so I only play with this one rarely.

I also have a small range of primes that are selected when I want to get creative or when I want to travel very light. I'll grab one or two primes and look for opportunities that match the chosen focal length.

For tidepool photos, I've been using the Nikkor 60/2.8 micro. It's a good lens but I feel that the focal length is a little bit too short for many situations. I'm looking at acquiring either the infamous Tamron 90/2.5 or the Nikkor 105/2.8 to get a little more range for macrophotography.
