I've been doing photography for over thirty years and still feel like I'm a beginner. My first camera was a Minolta SRT 201 film camera but I switched to digital about six years ago and found the change more difficult than I expected. I used a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT 350D for the past three years but have more recently switched to the Canon EOS 7D, though I still use the Rebel XT as a back-up. I have three lenses, a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for general work, a Tamron SF AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro, and a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS telephoto. Along with my macro lens I use a Sigma EM-140 Macro Ring Flash.

My main interests in photography are nature, scenery and orchids. I am a member of the Washington Native Orchid Society, the Pleurothallid Alliance (Pleurothallids are a group of Central and South American orchids), the Mount Baker Orchid Society, and the American Orchid Society. I've been an awards photographer for the American Orchid Society and have had a number of pictures published in their magazines. I now do most of my photography outdoors while hiking and backpacking or at home in a spare room "studio" using some very basic lighting and staging equipment. I do very little editing or tweaking of my photos. I will occasionally touch-up dust spots and will crop some photos, though most of them are uncropped. I seldom do anything to the color, preferring them as they come from the camera. I try to do my composition through the lens, not with an editing program. Here on Flickr I always respond in kind to comments, favorites, and invites and do so as soon as possible.
