Amateur photographer and fan of burlesque, performance art, and anything that catches my eye.
I'm a very shoot from the hip type of photographer, I'm not technical, and I don't really even know how to be technical. And frankly, often, given the action and speed, and poor lighting at a typical burlesque venue, and assuming that you are trying to at all to be considerate of the other audience members, technical solutions can just be annoying and severely obtrusive (ever sit behind a photog with a good flash in a dark venue? I really cannot watch the show. Flash, flash, flash, flash, baseball bat!) That all said, I certainly understand that if want to take really good photos, the technical issues are unavoidable.
I like reality, so often I do not edit my photos. Given the volume of photographs I have, I don't have time to do much post production. I have a day job which I must pay some attention to. Besides really there are few things more perfect than a picture taken at just the right moment with the right lighting.
With burlesque photography, I'm often to trying to capture as much of a performance as practical. I'm trying to document it, at least pictorially, and maintain some context for all the photographs. Because often you'll see a single amazing shot, but often you'd like to know what lead up to that and where it goes from there. At least, I do. I tend to focus on the face, because normally that is where the character is. Nudity is just icing on the cake. It's really not what's important. If I was doing fetish photography, then I'd probably have a different take on that.
Yes, I realize I am terribly behind on my tagging. We are talking a year or two and several thousands of pictures. It's a little depressing.
