rockstro's photostream
|

these days more of an analyst and consultant in the strange world of wide-format digital graphics and print . . .
a Canon user since the mid-sixties (apart from the occasional addition of medium format), I thoroughly enjoy doing all sorts of dreadful things with PhotoShop, and I'm not in the least bit ashamed of admitting it.

"Inventive, a real eye, original. It's always a pleasure to drop in to rockstro's stream - I just wish I remembered to visit more often.

"I think it can be put no other way... Sophie has one of the most amazing photographic eyes I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing."

"Rockstro's pictures have a wonderful inner calm and stillness. The colours are subtle and have a strange smoothness about them. Her black and white photography is very interesting as this quiet stillness seems to amplify the subject. I particularly like the cemetery cats where their baleful expressions add to the feeling of the viewer intruding on their spirit presence, there's even a gargoyle to scare off malevolent ones, lovely stuff"

David Bridger says:
"I joined Flickr to share snapshots with a group of friends, that's all. No particular interest in photography. Purely a social thing.
Then, one evening, I found rockstro's photostream. I gazed in awe on her honest professionalism and clarity of expression and wonderful vision. Her work inspired me and, although I didn't think for a minute that I could ever match its excellence, I knew I wanted to learn how to express myself in pictures as well as in words.
Thank you for inspiring me, rockstro."27th August, 2006

"I've been following Rockstro's photostream for a good 3 months now. It is amazing how it doesn't cease to surprise me - not only for the quality of the photography, but the way each photograph seems to tell a little story about the world once you look at it for long enough.
Wondrous stuff - highly recommended."12th July, 2006

"Despite it seeming quite curious to write a testimonial about one's maman, but then again, her photography continues to amaze me, and even objectively she remains one of my favourite visitees on flickr.
Her style has become notorious and eye-catching. Her clear lines and precise renderings catch everyday objects or situations and make them compelling; that in itself is a testament to her skill, that these regular objects can be converted to items of scope.
To work with as a portrait photographer, she is both deeply fun and astoundingly professional. Out and about, especially in our wanders through Paris - which I have come to adore - she sees things that I don't understand how she can make into the photos on her profile, and yet her success is paramount.
I'm sure you will enjoy and see something different in her work; go and have a look."23rd January, 2006

"Firstly, let me say that I have no great knowledge of photography or the language of its analysis. Given that, some words come to mind when looking over rockstro's pictures. Here are some in no particular order:
cool, balanced, dynamic, story-telling, exciting, wonderful, awesome, technically wonderful (it seems to me), insightful, sensitive ...
What I feel when I look at them is:
envy, wonder, goosebumps, sympathy, empathy, closeness, sadness sometimes, excitement, longing ....
One of the things I would most like to see and something I dream about is a book of her work. Not to be in the meantime at least, I understand.
I think her work is wonderful, in the true sense of the often-overworked word. Please have a look around her pages.
Adam"23rd January, 2006
