Running With Scissors!'s photostream

RWS is my initials, and I sort of like to break the rules that Mom had, therefore...Running With Scissors. But I still look both ways when crossing the street.

Currently shooting with a Sony a55, although Flickr doesn't acknowledge the existence of the "2010 Camera of the Year". Before this I shot with a Canon XS. You'll see some of both mixed in the stream.

I'm looking for your opinions...even the negative ones. I can take it. There have been critics of everyone's work throughout history. I'm sue painters had lots of negative criticism, every photographer probably has as well. That is either what made them great, or made them quit. If it made them quit, then they probably didn't enjoy doing it to begin with.

The point is, you can't please everyone, but somewhere, an opinion will be passed along that leads the photographer in a new direction, or to see an error in his own work. Things like, "this picture sucks" are not helpful at all. Critiques like,"you should not cut off a person in the edge of the photo at the middle of the leg" can help a photographer realize why he himself thinks the photo looks a bit off. BTW, what is the rule on that?

That's the type of advice I'm looking for...when to cut off a subject in the side of the frame, cropping advice, even editing thoughts like cloning a rock out of a scene. How to create a sense of movement, emptiness, busyness, etc.

Lastly, ANYONE can give me an opinion. I don't care if you've never taken a picture before. You've seen them. I don't have to cater to your opinion. I might even agree with your opinion on creating a sense of movement or space, but don't want to change anything because I want this picture to look more calm, or closed in. Maybe I'll edit it and take it in two directions. Maybe I don't care enough or have the time to change that particular picture, but your opinion can help me with future ones.
