For most of my career as an artist I was a painter. I worked mainly in watercolors, gouache and some oils. I painted the world around me in all its true splendor. For many years I lived in the tropics and painted the lush plant life that surrounded me. When I moved away from the tropics and out into the country I painted mostly landscapes of the local farms and my vegetable garden.

In the early 90’s I moved with my family back to the city to begin a career in graphic design. I loved graphic design very much but working on the computer all the time took its toll on my psyche. I missed working with my hands. It was then that I began making jewelry as a way to get off the computer and make something I could touch and caress. I love the feel of holding a piece in my hands after creating it. I always fondle my work just to be sure it has the tactile qualities I am seeking. My jewelry reflects more of the graphic design world than the natural world. Of course that natural world will always influence me. How could it not? But my jewelry is more of an abstracted version of the real world.

I started out making jewelry in copper, silver and brass. But something was always missing. The painter in me longed for color. I tried adding colored stones to my work but it was never enough color for me. And then I discovered polymer clay and that was it for me. The color I had been missing all this time was there in the clay waiting to be formed and manipulated into pieces I could not only touch but see color in as well.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it. You can find me here on my blog:
