Rich Gypsy Designs' photostream

Anyone who knows anything about gypsies knows that the terminology "rich gypsy" is somewhat of a misnomer. Gypsies are rich only in that they are life savvy travelers. They savor the small things in life, the things found and free. They address beauty on their own terms and make it an expression of their lives in their homes, clothing and jewelry. They stand out from the crowd.

Currently based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I am still a gypsy by nature. I'll never be planted in one place for too long, or not in some way incubate a wanderlust. While on my travels, I'll pick up trinkets and parts of nature to rattle in my pockets until I come home again and empty my hobo's juxtaposition to mix with my odd tiddlywinks pile.

Often I will use found objects in my jewelry and other creative projects. The reason for this is obvious and simple (to me): beauty is really in nearly everything, from the everyday items that we accumulate like shells and rocks to beads fashioned from woods and seeds. I find using organic objects to be soothing to my soul as an artist. More than the aesthetics of the finished result, it is the connection with the earth which brings a kind of grounding to what I attempt to do.
