Feh. I never know just what to say in these profile things.

I got my start in photography when I was six, and mom gave me a 110 cartridge film Kodak Instamatic camera. One of these days I'll have to go through all the stuff she left me when she passed, and dig out some of those old photographs.

I got an education in Computer Science, and worked as a test and software engineer for many years before getting back into photography as a serious hobby. Being a bit of a gadget geek, it was a natural, and it was a nice break from sitting in front of a computer all day (at least until I got that first digital camera, lol).

I soon found myself gravitating toward people photography. As you can probably tell from my photostream, I have a passion for celebrating childhood. I'm fascinated by the different and sometimes contradictory aspects of their lives and personalties -- the energetic joyousness, and the quiet contemplation; the seemingly perpetual motion, and the capacity for stillness; the reckless abandon with which they can flit through their surroundings, seemingly not noticing anything, and the deep, concentrated fascination they can have with something as common as a dandelion.

Oddly enough, considering my background in computers, I prefer working with film. For some strange reason, I find good old fashioned fiber base prints far more aesthetically pleasing than digital techniques, though I am (at least somewhat) proficient with both.

I'm a big fan of Tri-X and Plus-X, and prefer using my Hassy 503. I also have a 5D and a V-Lux 1.

I'm also a big fan of FreeBSD, Linux, and Mac.
