Doc Robert, as he is fondly called, is a Medical Doctor and a General Surgeon by profession, a hobbyist-photographer. He is happily married to an OB-Gyne and blessed with a son. He is a self-taught photographer.

He started his photographic journey some 16 years ago when he first bought his "point and shoot film camera." He bought his first digital point and shoot camera when his son was born, to document his milestones. He further honed his craft when he decided to buy his first DSLR. With his endless profound love for photography , he started to collect some more camera gear.

Photography, for him is a form of escape from the hectic and stressful world of a medical practitioner.

His works can attest to his being a nature lover, with emphasis on landscapes and macros. Seeing those extreme close-ups of insects and flowers, being able to see those minute details not normally seen with the naked eye is something that will always amaze him. Being able to capture those stunning sunrises and sunsets makes him appreciate life more and sharing it to others is even more satisfying. He has recently been experimenting with portraiture.

Now, a happy Nikon user.

"I call him "Dr. Bob". He is a wonderful photographer and my guess is that he is even a much better surgeon because I sense that he has a genuine care for people. Also, he has a steady hand which is really the number one need for a surgeon along with knowledge of the anatomy. Dr. Tan has such a great outlook on life, he brings joy to my day with his lovely photos and comments on them. And despite his hectic surgical schedule, he finds time to visit many of his thousands of friends on Flickr and comment on at least one of their shots each day. He truly is an inspiration to all of us. So, Dr. Bob, keep on shooting. Your photos are just top notch."

"It just occurred to me that I should tell you just how much I love your work Robert ... and that this is probably the best way to do it.

Your work inspires me every day, my friend. It is distinctive and unique... the tones and light you achieve with each shot are perfect. I just commented on one of your pics that I would recognise your work now, even without your name against it. That might be a mild overstatement of MY talents, but not yours... lol

I look forward to seeing your work on my screen each day!

With my thanks for your constant support and encouragement, and with great respect,
    Mary"
