All who sail on capture-cruise with us
must be men with beards.

I am Rewert. My name is old german and means “the one who attracts”. I am an artist living in Cologne, Germany.
I started to paint bearded men: friends, lovers, men I meet on the streets and men I meet on the internet.
It turned out that I was most fascinated by men with beards. When I was young my father would sing pirate-lullaby's to me and my brother about men with beards. Most of the time I meet men and make photos that I then use to paint them. In the beginning I worked on carton-paper, size 20 x 27.5 inches. Now the sizes vary since I started using old frames from flea-markets and now I paint with acrylic paint on wood. I also use different tapes and materials. Sometimes I create patterns and sometimes I use words, lines from songs that I love. Each painting has its own story. Sleep In My Arms is a song by Swedish pop-singer Sally Shapiro. On the black and white painting with the same title you see a young man sleeping. The story is, that I spent a day at a carnival in Berlin. After celebrating a whole day I was standing in the subway and this young man came up to me, asking if I wanted to come to his place. I said “sure”. But on the train he fell asleep and I took the photo. All my works have a personal story like this, they are all connected to an encounter.

In January 2011 germanys biggest gay magazine MÄNNER printed an interview with me in their January issue.
