Check out what I've been/ am listening to while I edit my photos....

An artist does not fake reality- he stylizes it. He selects those aspects of existence which he regards as metaphysically significant- and by isolating and stressing them, by omitting the insignificant and accidental, he presents his view of existence. His concepts are not divorced from the facts of reality- they are concepts which integrate the facts and his metaphysical evaluation of the facts. Everything included in a work of art- from theme to subject to brushstroke to adjective- acquires metaphysical significance by the mere fact of being included, of being important enough to include.

"Lauren didn't want to sell Girl Scout cookies and she let everyone know in front of the store as she was getting shopping carts and ramming them into people's cars as they drove by. The scoutmaster tried to hold her back, but there was no containing this one. Lauren had a different take on this cookie mafia and decided to go her own way. I was heading into the Pizza Hut for the bunch-o-lunch buffet when I saw her storming down the sidewalk. I held the door open for her and she walked right in. Wow, a woman with confidence. I watched her pass right by the manager and went right for the pizza bar. She grabbed 3 slices of pizza and just started eating them. I decided since she was getting away with it, that I were to try it too and not only grabbed 2 slices of peperoni, but a cold beer too. Sat down next to her and just ate in silence.

The police were nice enough to let us ride in the same police car down to the station. I come to find out she's always been a rebel and she knew what she wanted and didn't want in life. The same is true for her photography. Rules are nice, but one needs to be able to look outside the standard rules in order to get what they envision. Lauren is certainly that way. I got to know a lot about her that day. One of which, she takes fantastic mug shots."

"I've been meaning to do this for awhile now.

I've known Lauren since high school. We lost touch, as so often happens, after graduation. I found her on MySpace about a year or so ago. We've been good friends ever since.

She exudes talent. Seriously. I can only dream of being as photographically talented as she is. I love that she finds natural beauty in everything. I am completely inspired by her and her attitude. She has taught me a lot recently about facing life head on and taking control of things. She's done some gutsy things (moving halfway across country being one of them) and I completely admire her ability to land on her feet.

She has taught me how to act as if. She has taught me to see the world through new eyes (or eye, in the case of a camera lens).

If you ever get to meet Lauren in person, count yourself blessed, because she is amazing.

Love ya, girl! Can't wait until we can reconnect in person."
