Would you like to take part in the Random Project 2012?

The Random Project 2012 will showcase a growing collection of postcards which are created by everybody. These will celebrate the spirit of London 2012 and enable us to visually document the shared cultural experience as the year unfolds - we will all become the artists-in-residence for a historic year.

The project is open to everybody to take part in; from artists to school children to atheletes. Each postcard is designed in response to a randomly assigned word relating to either 2012, London or the Olympics.

To take part please email word@random-project.co.uk with a number between 1 and 100. You will be sent your word along with full instructions. (Be patient, we'll send your word very soon but we don't have any clever robots automatically sending them out for us).

The Random Project 2012 virtual gallery will be open from February 1st 2012 and an exhibition will be planned later in the year.

Background

The Random Project started life as an idea by graphic designer and tutor Sarah Hyndman as a spin-off to the Experimental Typography course at the London College of Communication which she taught between 2002 and 2008. The Random Project 2006 was organised and run by Sarah, Claire Mason and Becky Chilcott.

From its inception the project gathered an international collective of designers and artists to produce typography-led work created in response to random words. It was soon opened out to everybody to take part in. Whilst many participants are currently based in London, others live as far afield as Australia, Brazil and India.
